Communication is not limited to human speech; it is also a fundamental part of technology, nature, art, and energy systems. This theme will connect the programme across the University of West Bohemia's faculties and research centres during the Night of Science on 25 September. From 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., visitors will have the opportunity to explore laboratories, studios, classrooms, and research facilities, not only on the university’s Bory campus but also in its buildings in the city centre. Through experiments, demonstrations, and personal encounters with researchers, they will experience science up close.

The programme will offer insights into communication through the lens of artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality, and the transmission of information via radio waves, and will demonstrate how machines “talk” to one another in modern manufacturing. Representatives of the technical disciplines will also showcase nanomaterials and plasma technologies, metal 3D printing, and NC programming. Visitors will be able to see the university’s student-built racing car and rover, as well as demonstrations of robotic systems.

Visitors can also look forward to a mathematics escape room, experiments exploring the laws of chance, the fascinating world of chemical reactions, and a chance to step inside acoustic laboratories. They will be able to try drawing in the air, explore the intersection of technology and fashion through e-textiles, and visit a visual light laboratory and screenings of experimental films.

The event will also feature exhibits focused on health and medicine. Paramedics, radiographers, medical laboratory specialists, and rehabilitation experts will present modern diagnostic and treatment methods while demonstrating the crucial role communication plays in patient care. Representatives of the humanities and social sciences will show how communication shapes history, law, economics, and everyday life. Visitors will learn, for example, how maps are created as tools of communication and why language shapes how we perceive the world.

The Night of Science is the largest science outreach event of its kind in the Czech Republic, bringing together universities, research institutions, and other organisations across the country each year. The full programme will be gradually published on the event’s website.

A ticket for free public transport is valid on the day of the event from 16:30 until 22:00 and is accessible on the website.
